Tribute to Simon Lyon
Simon Lyon was a founding member of the Port Jackson Veterans Cricket Club, along with Cameron McDonald, Peter Harrison, Paul Thomas and Chas Viner. Simon was Port Jackson’s inaugural chairman from our foundation season in 2015/2016 until the end of season 2021/2022.
Across that time Simon navigated the evolution of the club from an entity that was (men’s) 60s centric to include the additional age groups of the men’s over 50s in season 2016/2017 and men’s over 70s in season 2019/2020, firmly establishing the Port Jackson Veterans Cricket Club as the representative club for all veterans cricketers across the Greater Sydney Region.
From this platform so many veterans cricketers from across the Greater Sydney Region has had the opportunity to represent NSW and a lucky few able to go on and have the honour of representing Australia.
Over the time of Simon’s tenure the members of Port Jackson has grown almost 4 fold, providing cricketing opportunities to our cricketing veterans across the Greater Sydney Region that can simply not be underestimated or understated.
Through Simon's stewardship, the Port Jackson Veterans Cricket Club has not only has an immense impact across Sydney, but a across our entire state of NSW.
Simon, our thanks for your many years of devoted service to our club and the veteran’s cricketers of the Greater Sydney Region.
