This season the over 40s State Championships were held in Tamworth in February. Hats off to the organising committee for putting on a great event with most matches played at the side by side Riverside grounds.
This year the format was T20 and a record eleven teams travelled from across NSW with hosts Tamworth entering their own very strong team.
One again we had two experienced teams keen selected to compete. Cos Beadle skippered the Blues and Ryan Talbot the Reds, with both teams boasting a number of NSW reps.

After day one both our teams were 2 from 2 and there were murmurs that perhaps the Reds could cause an upset and outperform the highly regarded Blues.
Day two saw both PJ teams again win both their games to end the limited round robin stage undefeated and 4 from 4. The Blues had flexed their muscles on day two and recorded some massive scores whilst also keeping their opponents scores in check. That saw them guaranteed a finals berth whilst the Reds had to hope Tamworth - also undefeated, a quirk of the limited round robin system - would lose their last match, played under lights, to jag a spot in the final.
But Tamworth proved too good and also finished 4 from 4. The Reds ended up third on net run rate and would play the 3 v 4 consolation final which they ended up losing to Central Coast.
The final proved to be a one sided affair as the Blues restricted Tamworth to 87, allowing the batters to go about their business and secure an 8 wicket victory.
That’s two years in a row we have brought home the cookies. There was a great mix of experience and new blood in our squads and a good time was had by all. Thanks must go to the PJ organisers for putting in the hard yards behind the scenes and the players for committing their time and showing up ready to play and enjoy the event.
