Overview of the Season

This was by far the most challenging season that we have faced. The number of State and National Events greatly increased due to the expansion of 5 year age groups. This gave us less date options for other matches, especially in October and November.

Not to be daunted we were able to work around this. In addition, we increased the number of games for everyone. There was some concern that we would not be able to turn out so many teams, but this underestimated the appetite of the PJ players to play as much cricket as possible! I have attached the final Fixture List which shows all games, along with the results.

State Competitions

In the O60s State Comp at Dubbo the PJ Red team performed very strongly all the way to the final. They met a Southern Highlands team in the final who proved to be too strong.

In the O65s State Comp at Tuggerah our Red team won the first 2 games but unfortunately lost the third. No one team won all three, however our team won the tournament on quotient.

PJ Carnivals

We took a deep breath and decided to run the very first PJ Carnivals. Yes, not 1, but 2!...one for each the 60s and 65s. Invites went out and accepted. Then there were team withdrawals. In the end we entered 2 PJ teams and had 2 invitees to each Carnival. The invited teams were encouraged to recruit from far and wide.

The 65s Carnival was played in full, with all games very close. The M&G and Dinner at the Legion Club were a great success.

We tried to emulate this formula for the 60s but weather caused the games on the first 2 days to be abandoned due to rain. The 3rd day saw full games with PJs winning both by 1 wicket.

Thanks to those who put their hand up to be on the Organising Committee and to be Game Managers on the day.

Midweek Tours

This year we had 3 midweek tours, North, South and West. All were great successes and enabled us to play against regions that are further away from us

Regional Matches

We played one-off matches against our closer neighbours, home and away. We also played fixtures against CBC, Sydney Tamils and Georges River. The latter was for the Thomas Latto Trophy which PJs won.

Without Whom

With the increased number of fixtures, the amount of work required by the O60/65 team was proportionately increased. A massive THANK YOU to both Ragavan and Paul Georgiadis for their patience and efforts.

Next Season

We wish to ensure that next season offers just as many opportunities as the one just passed. However, the amount of work has become too onerous for the few people who assist. There is an urgent need to expand the team so that each role is not too demanding. Without doing this these people will stand down leaving no one to do the necessary work.

If you can help then please let me know. This may be just doing the mini tours for an age group, help organising the PJ Carnivals, back up to the existing Match Coordinators, or putting up scores on PlayHQ.

Finally, thanks to the PJ Committee for your support. We just keep going from strength to strength.
