NSW Over 50s Nationals - Adelaide 2022
NSW sent 8 sides to Adelaide comprising (6 x Over 50’s and 2 x Over 55’s).
A total of 36 Port Jackson Vets CC representatives were selected for Vets Cricket NSW across the 8 sides. The tournament was brilliantly put together and whilst the weather started off very cold and wild and woolly, the back end of the tournament was played under cobalt skies on incredible decks. Adelaide is a beautiful place to play cricket. All Australian States were represented, and New Zealand also send two sides over. There were two functions hosted at the Adelaide Oval and the standard of cricket was extremely high.
Unfortunately, the NSW 50’s 1st XI (“The Blues”), came 6th in the Div 1 comp and were extremely disappointed in their performances. The NSW 2’s (“The Waratahs”), performed better. Worth noting that several Port Jackson guys did well in Div 1 down there, including Neil McLeod, Jase Wilton and Simon Waddington.
The NSW 3’s (“The Possums”), was a 55’s side led by Port Jacko man Michael Hall and included other long-term PJ men, Daz Smith, Al Willmore, Rohan Harry, Adrian Schwager and Nick Garling. The NSW 3’s side had an immensely fun and successful tournament going through undefeated, downing South Australia, Western Australia, drubbing QLD in the semi and then VIC in the final to be crowned National Champions in Div 3. Both of the NSW 55’s sides won their divisional championships. It was a very strong and unified showing by our Port Jackson Vets down in Adelaide.
Warm Regards in cricket,
Nick Garling
