Port Jackson Over 70s beat Tamworth in Port Macquarie’s Wayne Richard’s Oval in the Second State Ove

I am thrilled to report that under the leadership of Cuthbert Berenger and his Vice Captain, Peter Harrison, a co-founder of Port Jackson Veterans Cricket Club, our lads (Septuagenarians) dealt thoroughly with their Tamworth counterparts in the first week of February 2020. Scoring only 100-7 in their 40 overs with Australian Touring squad member Ron Radford top scoring with 29, Tamworth were up against it after Harry Solomons top scored 30 not out and Tom Wood and Cuthbert Berenger made easy work of the Tamworth bowling each scoring mid 20s and Peter Harrison chiming in too to post 3-121 off 20 overs.

Match Report by Les Eastaway

Tamworth were asked to bat first and mustered 3-61 in their part one innings of twenty overs. Port Jackson replied in their twenty overs leading to lunch with 4-121. That constituted a game if the heavens opened. Overcast conditions prevailed after lunch with no delays. However Tamworth never threatened and at the completion of their forty overs were 7-100.

Game over with Port Jackson captain Cuthbert Berenger holding aloft the glorious Kingsgrove Sports Trophy. Hunter Taverners won the inaugural title in Orange and the loud whisper is title number three will once again be determined on the Mid North Coast at Port and surrounding ovals.

Captain Berenger paid tribute to all his team for moulding into a happy side with a desire to win, but not forgetting the spirit of the game. Openers Tom Wood and Harry Solomons provided a solid platform in all three games for the team totals with the skipper leading from the front as well.
