Ports Complete 2015-2016 Season After 4 Games

Following on from our last update in March, “Ports” aka Port Jackson 60’s Cricket, have now played 4 matches against Southern Highlands, Western Wildfires, Newcastle Lord’s Taverners and Central Coast Cyclones, the latter two games in the last two weeks of April’s glorious weather at Bland Oval, Riverwood.

Thanks must go to the visiting sides who made their way to Canterbury, but mostly to Paul Thomas, who has worked tirelessly to ensure we got these games played, and his Curator, Steve, who put in so much time to make sure we had a decent surface to play on.

The last two games were played in lovely sunshine in great spirit and were most enjoyable, exciting and both with exciting finishes; unfortunately after a great win against Newcastle, this week we fell one run short on the last ball of the day to record our first defeat.

There is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that the enjoyment that these fixtures brought smiles to the faces of everyone concerned, and Port Jackson bloodied some 9 new players in the past two weeks, with everyone wearing the new caps. This brings the total to 24 players, many of whom are new to this age level.

With a 3-1 win/loss ratio, it is time to record milestones and the first such milestone is Jeff Matchett’s 5-15 in the win against Newcastle, a remarkable spell of bowling to win us the game.

Only 3 sixes have been scored by Ports so far, 1 in each of the first three games. Lyon, Mesar and Raga (the first ball of the day!). We will continue to record such achievements and also will be handing out player numbers.

Our next cricket will be the Trials at Riverwood in September, so keep fit guys and we will keep you informed of important dates for our Fixture list next season.

I will be sending out the Tamworth INVITATION TO NOMINATE today, so please look out for it and respond to me ASAP so we can coordinate our involvement in the Regional Carnival.
