PORT JACKSON 60’s Cricket is under way
The newly formed Port Jackson 60’s Cricket Club Inc. was duly created in 2016 (and incorporated) to provide cricket for the Over 60’s age group and above in the Greater Metropolitan Sydney region, aligned within the NSW Seniors State Association and enables anyone who is keen to play cricket at this advanced age to do so at the level that they desire.
The idea behind this was to seek out those within the very large region that we call Sydney Metro, and the logo and name was designed to show that all players are welcome from North, South East and West of Sydney’s Port Jackson. To enforce this initially we have a group of committed players from these zones, Burwood, Georges River, Lindfield, Epping and Warringah who are serving on the Committee to provide us all with good cricket and good camaraderie.

We were additionally blessed with wonderful sunny days and all participants enjoyed the two matches. We hope to have another one against Central Coast Cyclones in late April at a venue to be agreed. Other teams in the schedule will be ACT, Quirindi, Newcastle Lord’s Taverners, with possible games against Tamworth, Armidale and Gunnedah, depending on availability; most games will be mid-week in order to avoid clashing with Masters and Classics Commitments.
To date we have a mailing list of over 83 players and with more players becoming aware of what is out there for them this list will only increase. However, to aid us in our efforts, we ask that you share this blog with your other mates who might be interested in mid-week cricket for next summer and with the ultimate intent of us building sides for the Tamworth Carnival in October 2016 (16th – 21st; 4 games over 5 days with a crucial rest day on the Wednesday); please let us know the contact details of those interested so that they can be included.
We have made a preliminary order of playing shirts, casual team polos for social events and a playing cap all with the Port Jackson logo; the design is attached in the email sent to you today so you can make your order.
Here is a link to the Match report written in the Southern Highlands newspaper, which summed up the game well, thanks to Norm Stanton.

Our second game was played at Bland Oval (home of Georges River) and was captained by Paul Thomas against an understrength Western Wildfires team captained and organised by Gil McGrath. Western Wildfires chose to bat on a good strip and a fast outfield but only managed 85 runs with new boy Joe Scarcella (2-10) bowling well and knocking over their top order. Only one of their players made the 30 retirement mark and Phil Bray’s (3-13) off spin ripped through the middle order. Port made easy work of it, with Rupert Matthews scoring well and Lyon retiring on 20 with a tight hamstring and Mark Ridge once again completing his 30. Knocking off the required runs in quick time, both sides agreed to a 12/12 match which Port also won with everyone getting a game.

Some of us represented NSW at Coffs Harbour earlier this week in the Annual “State of Origin”, known as the COOPER FINLAY CUP, against old rivals Queensland. We are happy to report that NSW won the overall Trophy by one match margin.
